A Celebration of Women
is absolutely excited to Celebrate the Life of this one Woman who, through adversity and severe illness, found her own Spirit and not only Survived, She Thrived!
WOMAN of ACTION
Kathleen O’Keefe-Kavanos
Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos was born to a military family, raised in Europe, taught Special Education for 10 years and Psychology at the University of South Florida.
She is a two time breast cancer survivor.
I survived by using something many in the medical field do not even acknowledge as being real.
My innate intuition.
You have it too.
Learn to listen to it.
It may save your life one day…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am an agented author represented by Scovil, Galen & Ghosh Literary Agency and has penned the book- SURVIVING CANCERLAND.
SURVIVING CANCERLAND:
The Psychic Aspects of Healing is my account of how I used my intuition to self-advocate a course of treatment, often against the vehement advice of my doctors, in my healing process.
Always work with your doctors, but never forget:
“ You make the Final Decisions.”
I hope my story can help you make ‘Better Decisions’.
Kathleen explains:
“There is almost always a point in the process of illness where logic, reason, and medical expertise fails. It’s at this point a patient slips through the cracks, sometimes never recovering.”
“I had completed my second chemotheraopy for my second battle with breast cancer and was at a Christmas party. Someone snapped this picture of me having a good time. It is important to laugh and party in life, no matter the challenge.”
Kathleen takes Action!
….for Her Spiritual Journey of Healing, and gets in touch with Nature.
“It was Dec. and my first open water dive. I landed next to that shark, and the instructor snapped the underwater picture. Since then I have done more than 500 dives and only 35 of those were without sharks. Sharks were my puppy dogs of the water world.”
Sometimes life’s callings are like kittens, they choose you. I never wanted to be a writer. And, I and she definitely didn’t want to be a cancer patient. Yet, here I am writing about surviving. There is often a point in the process of illness where logic, reason, and medical expertise fails.
“Just before I started my second round of cancer treatments, I went horseback riding through the Indian Canyons in Palm Springs.
“The Canyons are an oasis on the Indian Reservation in the middle of the desert.”
“My ‘doctor within’ came to my rescue as I battled recurrent advanced breast cancer that was missed by the medical community. I survived by using my female intuition/inner voice to self-advocate. I always worked with my doctors,
but never forgot to make the final decisions…
“I used this Inner Power to Heal Myself and teach my doctors”.
A Celebration of Women
holds this Woman of Action within deep Appreciation
for her Celebrating her Life with the Women of Our World.
Kathleen is a wonderful woman on so many levels. I’ve never met her face-to-face but we have become sisters through the ‘Net. She is responsible for introducing me to this site. You have to come and visit mine http://www.LivingintheHeartland.com. It is this site’s sister. See how I celebrate women and their accomplishments. You may also want to check out my new book Living in the Heartland: Three Extraordinary Women’s Stories. Midwest Book Review gave my book 5-stars. MBR said Living in the Heartland is intriguing and a highly worthwhile read. Living in the Heartland is a compelling story of real Americans – women who are heroines not because of remarkable feats but in the graceful way they live in the face of challenges. The stories in the book chronicle the lives of a Native American, an African-American Muslim, and a Korean-born adoptee. Living in the Heartland:Three Extraordinary Women’s Stories is a celebration of women. It’s available in paperback and Kindle on Amazon.com.
We have all heard that Angels exsist on earth and let me tell you Kathleen is one of these beings. Not only is her story extrodinarily inspiring, she is a loving, generous and gentle Soul. You must listen to her interview “A Courageous Act of Faith” on my radio show “Blessings For Your Soul” at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/haileywiseman or download the podcast at http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/blessings-for-your-soul-hailey/id363484081
She will inspire you to look inside and listen to that voice of guidance that knows the truth. It saved her life!
I invite you to visit my website. I would love to hear your story and what inspires you.
With faith, hope, love and inspiration – Hailey
I am proud to say that I have been a friend of Kathy’s for about 8 years now. I knew her when she had her second battle with cancer and, for the most part, was unaware she was even in a battle. She is simply amazing! She does live by the light and has a pure and open heart. She lives life to the fullest and takes anyone, that is willing, along with her for the ride. Hence, I was not surprised when she wanted to write a book and share with so many others her positive, unique, and courageous experiences with cancer. You will meet no one as genuine, sincere, and forthcoming as she. I feel fortunate to walk this life with her and to call her my friend.
thank you for the friend request. i am already enjoying this site. i sent it to my bff joy, who just completed chemo and rad tx for breast cancer.
there is power in agreement and i believe this will not defeat women!
i look forward to the camaraderie of being united with women of faith who empower others.
This sounds like a remarkable book, with a wonderful message. We none of us know what health issues await us as we journey through life, and this sounds like a good handbook for meeting any challenge.
I am so grateful to personally know Kathy. And, have had the privilege of reading her book “Surviving Cancerland”. Kathy’s personal journey of surviving breast cancer twice is the most interesting, inspiring and informative stories I have yet to read!!! I admire her attitude, her faith, and that she honored and followed her intuition which saved her life. A great reminder for us all. Kathy’s spirit is wise, kind and generous, and this world is a better place because of her.
Hi Kat! I’m so sorry I missed the chat and didn’t get to meet you last night. I enjoyed reading your post here and getting to know you a little bit. Great photos! I was at the dr. several times last week for a lump that I found in my right breast. It turned out to be cystic breast tissue, but I did listen to my intuition about noticing that it was different than the other “lumps” and got it checked out right away. I’m relieved that it’s nothing serious.
It is so wonderful to meet you, and a cancer survivor no less! You are a hero to many in that you beat such an awful disease! I lost my mom to cancer when I was 18, and I love hearing stories of survival. It makes me believe there is still hope for others with the diagnosis of cancer. I love your positive outlook and your enthusiasm for life really comes out in this post! Great job!
My 13 year old and I are doing the Race for the Cure in Philadelphia on Mother’s Day. I’ll be thinking of you! Looking forward to chatting with you soon!
I love your website, very inspiring. YOu are the kind of woman I like to write about, except most of my women characters at this point are Gypsies. Love and admiration to you.
Sonia
